How a search runs

From the description to a decision you can back.

  1. Before you design it

Before a new part comes into being, ask the inventory: does something like it already exist?

  2. Search the inventory

The search runs over the drawing inventory that is already there. Nobody has to sort it first.

  3. Check the hits

For every candidate, drawing number, material and deviation stand side by side.

  4. Reuse or build new

You weigh what the search cannot know, and decide.

Capabilities

What the search settles before a new design.

Four things a part-number search cannot do.

  • One part as the template, the rest sorts itself

Pick an existing part or upload a model. KoAssist lines the inventory up behind it, ordered by similarity. A part stored rotated is found too.

    SO-2015 · Drive shaftTemplate
    SO-3112 · Shaft 20x180 PF95 %
    SO-0871 · Axle Ø20 L18091 %
    SO-1187 · Shaft D20 × 16088 %
  • The same part, three times, three numbers

KoAssist spots identical and near-identical parts and groups them. Every duplicate found is one part fewer to maintain, order and keep in stock.

  • Even parts that exist only as a drawing

KoAssist rebuilds the shape from the dimensions on the drawing. An old part without a 3D model becomes findable by its geometry, not just by its name.

  • The difference, stated in millimetres

What the search saves

The answer is there before anyone starts over.

Today

20 to 60 min

searching the PDM, asking colleagues, opening drawings. Whoever finds nothing designs a new part instead of searching on.

With KoAssist

under 1 min

One part as the template, read the ranking, decide.

seconds instead of minutes

A part that never comes into being costs no design work and no shelf space.

Indicative values per search

The decision stays with engineering.

Whether a part can be reused depends on conditions no search knows about: supplier, tooling status, field experience. KoAssist delivers the candidates and the deviations, what follows from that is your call.

FAQ

Common questions.

Can I use Similar-Part Search already?

Similar-Part Search is in development. We are trialling it with individual engineering departments on their own inventory, and early access is available on request.

Does my inventory have to be named consistently?

No. The search compares shape and dimensions, not names or part numbers. It finds the similar part even when nobody ever called it that.

What does a hit show?

Drawing number, material and the dimensions in which the part differs from the one you are looking for.

Does the search decide whether a part gets reused?

No. Whether a part fits depends on supplier, tooling status and field experience. The search delivers candidates and deviations, the decision stays with you.
